    Vanity

Here I sit in the darkness
    nothing more but sadness

why still here, in this room
    where walls so high loom

reaching out to corners I feel
    fingers touching cold hard steel

eyes wide shut in blindness I see
here alone, why have you left me

sitting in ignorance with no face
there is no one keeping pace

    silence shattering sanity
all for nothing but for vanity

    Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
