MOTHER
Mother, you had promised me that you wouldn’t go
But whatever happened, I just don’t know
When I came of age, you weren’t there
And you had been gone for quite a few years
You didn’t go because you wanted to
It was death that had taken you
I guess you had wanted to stay as long as you could
But they say only God knows what’s good
I guess he didn’t want to see you suffer anymore
And for you, he opened the glory door
But for me, I just didn’t understand
Why He had to take you before I became a man
one who could repay you for all the things you did
one who wished you were here just like when he was a kid
Every time I see a mother, I think of you
And I tried to imagine the things for you that I would do
You died when I was just ten
I didn’t understand much then
But now that I’m beginning to understand more
I wish you were here now as you were before
May God be with you wherever you are
And may there be on your crown, many stars
