My Barbed Wire Heart

My Barbed Wire Heart

Here is my heart...
Held together with dried blood, barbed wire, and broken dreams...
Covered in scars, wounds, and torn seems

It has been trampled and trashed...
Burned and slashed...
Punctured and gashed...
Gnawed and gnashed

Ripped apart from every conceivable angle
Until all that was left...
Was bloody chunks of heart...
Pieces of myself

But despite every adversity...
My heart still survives
I pieced it together
And kept it alive

And now it beats strongly within my chest
It shines like a work of art
Never again will love sever...
My bruised barbed wire heart

This is good. There is a lot behind this poem. Try to vary your rhyming scheme a little bit. Really let it flow so it doesn't become clunky because you are searching for the next rhyme. Your intelligence shines through, keep working.

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.

Aristotle (384 BC-322 BC) Greek philosopher.
