Ode to Coffee Shops

I see you over there, sitting in that little chair.
Little chair, little chair.
Why such a little chair?
Is it because it's modern and hip?
Is it there to match the little cup that sits on the little table in front of you?
That little cup which sits on the little table with a not so little price?
Why do you spend so much on such a little cup?
Do you pay it so you can put your little cup on the little table,
and sit in your little chair in the little coffee shop with not so little prices?
Do you sit there at the little table with your little laptop so you can look sophisticated?
Look at me! Look at me! I am typing on my laptop while sitting in a little chair and sipping from my little cup!
Maybe I'm writing a book, the next bestseller in fact.
Or maybe I'm writing a blog that all of my myspace friends can read.
Or maybe, just maybe, I'm writing nothing at all, and I just want people to look at me.
Sitting in the little chair at a little table drinking from a little cup in a little coffee shop.
Looking sophisticated because you pay large prices for tiny things to be all around you.
Maybe you just like house music.
Music that's played so quiet as if to match the little cup and little chair.
Maybe you pay a not so little price for a not so little taste that comes from a very little bean.
Why does it take you so long to empty your little cup of not so little taste?
Are you too busy looking busy to drink from your little cup?
Or maybe it's just so little you forgot it was there?
Maybe you don't want to try and make a little cup last a not so little time?
O look, a friend walked in. They have their laptop too.
How cute, you can sit in little chairs sipping from little cups at little tables together.
Writing non-existent best-sellers and super important periodicals for tomorrows big board meeting.
Make little talk about the little house music that plays so quietly in the little coffee shop.
Why are coffee shops so little?
Is it because it's modern and hip?
Modern and hip.
Why do coffee shops put little cups on little tables with little chairs?
Why do coffee shops play little music while you pay not so little prices?
This, the world may never know.

Hi. That was a very angry poem. Dare I say there was jealousy there? Don't stop writing. X

Poetry is what is lost in translation.
