Reminisce -Our Village X-Mas
At the crow of a cockThe village arose
On the Christmas morning,
In a flurry
Mothers got into their duty
Of ensuring the clan got well fed
All of the festive day
We the children,
Wiped our blurry sleepy eyes
Due to transnighting on the eve
awaiting 'the birth' of Christ
In churches and at home,
Though in essence
All awhile dreaming of that moment
Of showcasing,
Our new 'fashionable' outfits
and footwear
And the once in a year generosity
Of the 'aunties' and 'auncles'
Not forgetting
The once in a blue moon family outing
Is there anything
from Mothers pots
That went un tasted?
Breakfast came late,
Lunch much later,
Ofcourse, i had to be special
And with all rare delicacies
Never mind
The upset tummies
They had to deal with the next day
Where other days
They had to run and scream at us
To keep neat
Not on this day
Even we understood
The new wardrobe addictions
Had to be kept sparkle clean
Sometimes even had the priveledge
To do alittle fashion show
During the morning mass and services
Among peers,
Feel all pretty and good
As we awed each other.....
Such was our Christmas
Simple Joys and laughter
Still our most treasured
day of the year
