Salt On Your Wounds
Drifting off into my own little world.
Your voice trailing off as I continue to slip inside myself.
Forgive me for not encouraging your ranting.
For my own form of despair has seemed to build barriers around my ears.
Forgive me for not being so deep within thought to care that your heart is breaking before my very feet.
Watching as it shatters upon the concrete, the blood rising to my knees.
Why should I be the one to lick your wounds?
I watch as you sulk in the corner, watching the world outside live on without you.
People passing by, paying you no mind.
My body moving on without me, fingertips trailing, goose bumps forming.
I hear you calling my name, the thought of your presence sickening , leaving my stomach acids churning.
I wait for the moment you reach out for me in hopes I will assist.
I wait for the day I finally give in.
Your chest rises with each intake from the earth.
My eyes slowly drifting in a momentary coma.
My dreams are all I have left of happiness.
Those few moments will be the only time you see my mouth curve into even the slightest hint of a smile.
