    The Animal

    An Animal is following me.
    It hiding in the shadows.
My enemy is larking just inches apart from me.

I hear the bushes rattle my heart stops in mid-beat.
I feel my life's defeating end is around every corner and bend.

I scan with my eyes trying to seek shelter from the thing.
I hear the sounds but I cant bring myself to turn around and look.

I'm afraid of what I might find.
I'm aligned with the path glancing fast left and right.
My air ways feel tight with every step a take.

I hide my eyes just peering out in-between my fingers and go up to this thing.
I realize while I step closer cautiously it shows my reflection the thing, the animal was only me.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
