The Bridesmaid's Reception

The Bridesmaid's Reception

The wedding was planned for the summer in June,
The groom appeared reserved and shy,
His secrets were hidden, he was leaving soon.
Who he loved, he could not deny.

The bridesmaid was rejected
In favor of her friend,
Instead of feeling nejected
She decided to pretend.

The maid of honor had departed
Because she knew the truth
She was brokenhearted
Had taken a train to Duluth.

The day was dismal and rainy,
So Candace the bridesmaid decided
Upon a reception uncanny,
The guests were somewhat divided.

The music the band played was quiet
In contrast to the colors of light
Gradually though, she could not deny it
The tunes became very bright.

The groom stood straight and tall
His eyes were ablaze with desire,
He walked toward her across the hall.
The bride's temper was on fire.

Candace stood and turned from the dance,
Turned once more to the groom
She did not want to take the chance
Of stopping the party too soon.

The best man took her arm gently
And asked her to dance to the stage
She sang some songs sentimentally,
By now the bride was enraged.

Without glancing at one another,
Each left the hall by stair,
A slight distance before the other,
The bridesmaid and groom were a pair.

Poetry is not the expression of personality but an escape from personality.
