    The Girl Inside

There is a girl inside of me,
who tries her best to break free.
This girl is very emotional and loves to scream and shout.
She loves to cry and cry, trying to let my bottled emotions out.
But in my firm resolution to keep her locked up,
There is a small beacon of doubt.
Is she the real me whom I strive to forget?
If that is so, than maybe I'm not completely lost yet.
Yes, there is a girl inside of me,
and she might just prove to you that I'm not who I appear to be.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
