Tides

    Tides

Valiant effort of vodka to fight off the tide
Winning the battle of foggy recollections
His eyes turning away from me
    Caught in cloudy afternoon shadows
Disguised as caring well crafted designs
Foretelling the future as they carry me along
Cloaked in sadness or is it angst of my own making
Reeling carelessly from one day to the next
The mind says retreat but the heart dares once more
To free fall - soaring on love's wing
The bottle empties and loneliness begins
Rue the day I laid eyes on him
His smile a perfect ruse to bend me down
Where I found happiness for awhile
    Sublimely emptied and without guilt
    Quiet triumph for us both
Until the moment turned to truth
    Selecting words so carefully
    Guarding secrets with our tongues
We slip away from where we were

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.

Aristotle (384 BC-322 BC) Greek philosopher.
