Walking With Eve
I hold the hand of Eve,
Guilty of temptation.
Side by side, we are sisters,
Gullible, naive.
Giving it all up for a moment of pleasure.
Willingly taking the fall, the plunge, into darkness.
Knowing right from wrong,
yet letting Shame in to overtake all hope and purity.
Who am I to take what is pure and good and sacred
To fulfill, to rebel?
I understand the rules,
and continue to be disobedient.
Temptation. My true enemy.
Consequential imperfections haunting my soul.
Eve, is it too late?
Will I not be forgiven?
Why am I suffering?
Will I never learn?
Do I keep picking apples from this tree and assume
I am unloved?
But, Eve, they taste so good.
I know He will always love me, Eve.
I will show Him that I am not rebelling.
That I do love Him.
That I am trying. That I am fighting.
Can you ask Him to hold my hand, Eve?
And tell Him I am sorry.
And will you still hold my other hand?
So we can share our story?
I want to be everything I can be and more.
I want to look in the mirror without Guilt,
without Shame.
Let the truth be told, we are not perfect.
But we can fight together.
And choose to walk away together.
What's that, Eve?
You found another tree?
I hold the hand of Eve,
Guilty of temptation.
Temptation…let me be.
Guilty of temptation.
Side by side, we are sisters,
Gullible, naive.
Giving it all up for a moment of pleasure.
Willingly taking the fall, the plunge, into darkness.
Knowing right from wrong,
yet letting Shame in to overtake all hope and purity.
Who am I to take what is pure and good and sacred
