    Poem Commentary

    Written for a wonderful friend who has a way of inspiring me as no one else ever could.

    WRITING A PAINTING

    He has been blessed with gifts awesome and rare.
    Now, with all others, he has chosen to share.

    His artistry is masterful as he writes without fears.
    A man so talented yet so young in years.

    Wide is his canvas, he creates a masterpiece;
    for his words can paint pictures anyone can see.

    The tale he is painting, from beginning to end,
    with determined strokes. The brush is his pen.

    As the story unfolds the shapes will take form.
    The colors will deepen, some cold, some warm.

    It's not how it ends but where it came from the start.
    This story he is writing he has drawn from his heart.

    Relax, read slowly, the scene comes into view....
    He is writing a painting for me and for you.

    In this controlled effort of defined meter and rhyme, you struggled a bit on stanza three to portray your focus. I lost momentum here, and I dare say others will, too. Still, curiousity beckons, is this someone you know, or a fantasy of someone unlike the man in some of your other work?

    Thank you for your comment sir. I was actually having my most trouble with stanza four. Yes, this someone I know. You can view his works here as poet, Will28. His most recent two are what inspired this writing of mine. Please, read The Phoenix's Shame and The Phoenix's Song. Through the forum here he was given some advice and the revisions of both made such a dramatic difference. He is new at the poetry aspect of creative writing but he's getting better each time.

    Poetry is not the expression of personality but an escape from personality.
