Poem Commentary

"Don't just walk pass people. Learn to atleast say hello. Don't just speak to people, atleast say hey or have a nice day. You never know who you will save just by saying those few words."

You Could Have Saved Me!

You walked right passed me, didn't even bother to speak. You saw me struggling at times, barely any food to eat.

You saw me hunched over, bruised from where I got beat. You just kept walking, wiping your brow so you couldn't see.

I came to you, hopeing you would help; you turned your back and it was hurt I felt.

You went about laughing at me because I'm different; you talked about me because I chose to be unique.

Your eyes are wired shut to the hurt and pain I bared, but hey you don't care!

All you did was stare at me, with no care in your heart to lend a helping hand; to become my friend would be too much of a demand.

You didn't take the time to get to know me; you didn't even bother to learn my name. Just that I was a strange girl who looked insane.

Now I'm down here looking up at you, wandering what's true. I'm watching all of your faces looking down at me, looking up into a sky so blue, now that my life is through.

Now that i'm dead, you want to come and see?! I stand beside you as you cry, whispering in your ear: "you could have saved me, so now just leave and let me be."

Thank you.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
