A Child’s Prayer

A Child’s Prayer

Now I lay me down to sleep

Heedless of the dangers

That awaits me in the shadows.

I pray the lord my soul to take

So that I may find the answers

And happiness that I seek

If I die before I wake

I’ll leave behind no regrets

For I have lived my life the way I wanted

I pray the lord my soul to keep

So that I may be safe from harm

And the dangers that we face

In all our mortal years

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
