Children of the Night

Children of the Night

In the darkness

I found you there

Hiding your tears,

From the world.

You shied away from the light,

As well as my approach

Curling in upon yourself

Expecting some painful blow.

Softly I begin speaking to you

Assuring you of things that even I can’t promise.

You shout at me

Cursing my existence

And tears spring to my eyes.

I kneel beside you then

Pulling you into my embrace

Despite your struggles,

And together we shy away from the light

Hiding our tears from the world,

As together we hide in the darkness,

Two lost children of the night.

Subtle and mysterious. Nice that 2 are together to share in their oneness. I like the shear innocence and naivete portrayed here. And welcome fellow baystater. Ginga

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
