A Magic Wand
You say you found a magic wand
That grants you all you please
Your life will be so happy now
If given all with ease
I wonder if you’ve given thought
To what that really means
The things that you’ll be missing now
Were overlooked it seems
How will you know the joy of life
With nothing to compare
Or ever seek to rise above
A circumstance or care
To never know the pain of loss
Or need to face your fears
Or have a single scar to show
For any of your years
So many things you wouldn’t know
That makes us who we are
Your character and self esteem
Aren’t found upon a star
They’re only found in lessons learned
From choices made in life
Mistakes and Triumphs, loss and gain
Loves happiness and strife
There is no glory for someone
Who’s never overcome
The challenges we must go through
To know the pride we’ve won
In looking back you’ll understand
What every test has meant
And how they have prepared you
To face the next one sent
Just think about these words above
And you will see I’m right
As lesser men have come to know
When last they see the light
There’s many joys in struggles past
That retrospect provides
Just send the wand back while you can
Let conscience be your guide
