In The Eyes of a Child
In The Eyes of a Child
In the eyes of a child horizons bring presents
And days filled with laughter and play
Curiosity spurs them to seek out new wonders
Their fears do not stand in their way
They hunger for knowledge and revel in answers
Believing in magic and dreams
Their love is beyond any pretense of war
And honesty shatters all schemes
Too quickly they grow and will soon leave behind
Their childish laughter and ways
And hope no more lingers of recess and playtime
Life’s struggles take over their days
Remembering back to the time of my youth
How endless those summers all seemed
Now I cherish each day for the gift that it is
Though nothing like what I then dreamed
I ask not for money or what it can buy
Or for things that will serve only me
I care not for power, or what I can’t share
I am who God wants me to be
Both future and destiny lie in the past
Only He knows what fate lies ahead
I pray for the peace and salvation of man
And the best for our children instead
Be grateful for love and forgive as you did
When the child in you was still strong
And pass on that gift to the children you have
Remember they won’t be young long
Protect them from harm and embrace them with love
For the day you’re no longer around
The values you teach them are all that they have
To keep them on strong solid ground
Hold on to your wonder and seek still the truth
Giving thanks to the ones who have loved you
Believe in your dreams and instill that in others
Remember To thy own self be true
