A Million Years Ago
Compliment the gray strands
on this head
the ones reflecting in the dismal sun
shining for absolutely no one
misery brings out the best in me
alienated for all time
At Walmart,
staring through the windows
transfixed by the poor and the rich
buying and exchanging
finding this life draining
wishing it didn't come with any hitch
A flippant comment
he goes off the deep end
stormy silence
once a lover, barely a friend
is there anything left to mend?
refusing to play the game of let's pretend
Is there anybody Out There?
in the passenger seat
staring sullenly at the view
an inquiring hand fails to breech
the atmospheric gloom,
this car has become like a tomb
Remembering those summer days
out on a back porch
eying the skies
for flashes of heat lightning
the mood was quite inviting
but that was a million years ago
