    Anguish

I reach out to touch your cheek
but only grasp the air where you once stood.
I move to wrap my arm around you
but catch myself as you pass right through.
    I dream we are together
but wake to find you just a friend.
Then I wake to you by my side
and I am afraid to touch you and watch you disappear.
I'm hoping this isn't just another foolish dream.
Then you touch me and I feel warmth,
warmth of the skin, not the mind
The kind of warmth that let me know I wasn't dreaming.
Everything ceses to matter to me
you are here, with me, and that is all I could ask for.

Poetry is not the expression of personality but an escape from personality.
