at the slightest touch

at the slightest touch

a hand hovers lightly
over the tenderness
of ancient scars
over the bitterness
of pent-up rebellion
the body screams
emotional pains emerge
from the deepest, darkest
best-kept secrets
rising
to the surface of the skin
to begin
their slow journey outward
at the slightest touch
from the hand of love
the currents of lifeforce
awaken to harmony
balancing the subtle layers
and ripple through
to the denseness
of the stiff flesh
to the tenseness
of an unmoving muscle
blocked in fear
locked in tears
crying out for the touch
of sensitivity
wanting so much
to be deeply felt
to have every cell
alive and tingling
cleansed of the hurt
free of the sad thought
that freezes the body
into wintry hibernation
the constant consternation
of unworthiness
that plagues to the marrow

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
