the innocence of a child

the innocence of a child

I heard your voice and smiled
the innocence of a child
pealed like a bell
on a Sunday morning
like it was time to thank God
for the stillness of summer
a joyous laugh overtook me
your playfulness shook me
as if I had been dreaming
and gently awoke
to your melodious calling
I couldn't help falling
deep into your innocence
a chord was struck
and echoed through
the fibers of my being
I felt I was seeing
deep into your essence
the tones were so familiar
so comfortable
like a favorite pillow
that lulls me to sleep
like sacred music
I'll always keep
close to my heart
to remind me
of the innocence
in a child's voice

I heard your tender, soft and deep voice, I felt your gently trembling heart through your writing. Well done.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
