Battle and Deception, Revenge! (In two parts)

Battle and Deception

Swords clash in the heat of battle
Innocents flee and abandon their cattle.
Suddenly soldiers fall from behind
Invisible spears behind their own line.
But that isn't the case
At least not this time.
It's but a treacherous fiend
With a treacherous mind.
He's taken at least half
Near to the front
Though his sword is sharp,
His wit is quite blunt.
The tide is changing,
The battle on a hinge
But the fiend did not
Expect...

Revenge!

Retalliation came down in a swoop
Quick and loud, as soldiers did woop.
The horrible fiend was caught in the act
Of giving his allies a blade to the back.
Quick as a snap,
He was thrown in the mix,
Then torn all to shreds
Like rocks to picks.
Then celebration
But not long did it last
When the enemy pushed
For one final blast.
But with luck on their side
And valiant battle screams
The battle today
Goes to the deceived.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
