    • Very excited and very grateful. My son Michael will be coming back to American soil in about 12 days I want to thank all of you for your prayers and well wishes and strength.

    Day is Done

The light of day turns soft and pink
As the sun slowly covers her face.
    The bright smile of today
Has become the pale gleam of tonight.
    The moon begins her journey,
    Sliding quietly above the horizon,
    Skipping across the treetops,
    And into the evening sky.
    The scent of Jasmine
Hovers in the crisp night air.
    A far away train whistle
Awakens memories of days gone by
    And times long forgotten.
    I smile.

    *******

My mind wanders through long halls,
    boxes piled high,
Each contains a piece of my past.
Be careful which ones you open.
Some memories are best left in the box!
The train has click-clacked its way down the track,
Its whistle to far away to hear.
I am once again sitting on my porch,
Pale light filtering through the green boughs.
The moon climbing to her perch.
    The earth exhales....
    Day is done!

You are a breath of fresh air. Love "earth exhales " Such peace must be inner strength. Good job. Looking forward to reading more of your poetry.

Thank you for writing and posting this poem. Wi-Fi is soooo cool ... I just happened to be watching the sun set behind Mt. Manadonock in New Hampshire when I read this ... I also enjoyed your other stuff .. you'ree very talented. I'm just kind of getting started at "poetry" per se ... I'm still stuck in the "Moon in June" phase though .. probably because I was a songwriter for so many years ... I mean with songs, everything has to rhyme for the most part anyway ... I like rhyming though ... some people seem a little "snobby" about that on here ... but I am trying to think and write less that way. Thanks again.

I am new at this too, and yes some of us have a 'standard' but I have always liked what I call free style( an easy name for the kind of poetry I put together. You have to express yourself the way that it workd for you....thanks for the comment, will be reading your stuff too....

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
