ground frogs

ground frogs

i woke early to take advantage of a light misty rain
each step a pursuit of whimsical rainbows and dreams

it felt so very good to walk as minute drops gathered glistening
slowly streaming down to pool in one large drop

in the corner of my eye as though I cried
for all the things I've done that hurt others
unwittingly thinking i was helping them

so as not to be deterred in my quest to improve who I am
I kept up a lively pace so that the shimmering beads met
mingling along my swinging arms
only to fall off
halfway between elbow and wrist

nourishing the ground frogs
who must vanish
undercover
in the heat of day

leading me to
contemplate
how we all hide
in curious ways

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the USA
