WONDER

After faith has fled

What is left thereunto?

What remains?

What…

Propels her onward,

Sends her searching,

Still

Unceremoniously yearning,

Stepping over hills and valleys

Until

Striking her foot upon a stone

She pauses to look down in

Wonder

Discerning Who it was that placed

Such a tiny stone in her

Path,

Not much more than a trip

Though breaking stride long enough to

Create

Doubt of all the uncertainty

Surrounding her,

Now

That she has left off
Knowing the one
Who.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the USA
