    growing up stupid

    i keep saying to myself
    wait
    wait for the curve ball
    watch for the curve ball
    but i never do
i never even think about the curve ball
i never anticipate the curve ball
i always expect the fast ball
    fast balls are honest
    i go down swinging
    a lot
    but..on that rare occasion
    it comes
    the fast ball
and i hit it out of the park
    i stand there watching
as the horsehide sphere soars up into the sky
    Hell..into the stratosphere
over the cheap seats onto the moon
    it makes my life

    which accounts for the fact
that most of my life i spend
    stupid

"life is spent stupid" most of the time. It is almost like you have to set aside time to be who you are some days. That's real stupid. But getting the mud to stand up has always been my biggest problem. It can't be too wet and it can't be too dry. But that's a potter's life for ya. A poet friend//RH Peat

GOSH REMINDS ME OF MY LIFE'S DECISIONS. I NEVER EXPECT THE CURVE BALL I JUST EXPECT THINGS TO GO LIKE I WANT OR THINK THEY SHOULD, AND THEN SURPRISE THERE IT IS AND IT EITHER HITS ME OR TAKES ME COMPLETELY OUT OF THE RUNNING. I NEVER UNDERSTAND WHY I AM SURPRISED AGAIN..AND AGAIN...WONDERFUL DUAL DYNAMIC TO THIS ONE. WRITE ON .....TLADY

Being a huge Giant's fan, I really really get this one, and I am pleased as putting to see a poem about Baseball. Its interesting that you equate yourself as stupid by using what is commonly known as "the thinking man's game" In fact a lot goes into anticipating a curve... psychology, the statistics of probability, code breaking techniques, meteorology, superstitious voodoo... and then there is always the look on the pitcher's face right before they throw... One thing is for certain: Life in general rarely gives an honest pitch, and when it does, you can expect the change up coming soon after. :-)

I think you have a great gift for narrative poetry my friend.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

    Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
