Left in the Rain

Left in the Rain

Shipwrecked is my heart toward the sunless sea
Desolate and pitiable like a sunken dream eternally
I watched my life ebb away from me
Sliced in part upon cold, ruthless shoals I would be
Without your love to save, to free
The songbirds burst in flame as rooks all together guilty
Guilty for the depth of love that swallows the soul without mercy
Kills the buried essence that once stood out with individuality
You quelled the moment of utter passionate finality
That hoped of promise, of endurance, of lasting glorious harmony
But your blackened sense of heartless rationality
Transcended the bonded bliss, the indescribable beauty
Into the moonless, lifeless sorrow that will be present with me endlessly
And I am shipwrecked on an island grey and empty
Because you could not, would not stay a part of me
You could not agree to stay forever somehow like what is unceasingly
You are the beauty that lived in me, the spell that was ever enchantingly
The very hope of my woman hood and that which was the lee
A safe place far away from the ravages of bitter hostility
Your heated skin was the warming sun that filled me unknowingly
With lighted drops of healing and sweet understanding
For you were, you are, will ever be my love and the most lovely part of me
That untouchable dream like the unreachable heart of the sea
Where your place will remain as I, bereft of heart, journey
To where I belong, to where I ought to be
Where the stars have fallen and the tears are overflowingly
That is my place, my curse, that on which I must agree
That is the end of me
