    Oubliette

    See next the ruins the ages left-
    walls stained and bulging,
    shadows.
    What secrets concealed
    under Time's patina,
    what horrors shrouded?
    Look past the gloom of the centuries-
    see now the remains,
    some broken, some dust;
    Bones of the long ago dead,
    hidden,
    in this little place
    of forgetting.

    This is a favorite theme of mine. I really liked the way you presented it. "a little place of forgetting." Fantastic. Thanks!

    The definition of an Oubliette is, literally, 'a little place of forgetting'.

    When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

    John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the USA
