Poem Commentary

Nearly 3 decades later, can't help giggling at myself :)

Smile

Have you ever walked down the street,
and seen someone looking sad;
so you gave them a cheerful smile,
and suddenly they were glad?

Have you ever been all alone
Feeling really blue,
then someone gave you a smile,
and you were smiling too?

A smile is something special,
something we’re all lucky to have.
But if we aren’t careful how we use it,
it could make somebody mad.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
