    The Battle Within

    Dark leering faces,
    Angels with heavenly graces,
    Long wicked claws,
    Voices with no flaws.

A battle each and every night,
    Not a struggle within sight,
    Another shrilling terrible scream,
Other sounds as beautiful as they can seem.

    Desperate to reach out,
    Afraid to wonder or shout,
    Looking into the light,
    With only darkness in sight.

    We all face these things,
    Always wondering,
    This is the battle within,
    The battle that never ends.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

    Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
