The last encore 5-11-08
Hope takes wing in flights of fancysoaring to slaughter all her best against the walls of my self made, self imposed prison.
While alone inside, I hide myself behind the cold fortifications of all my accumulated pain that I gather close about me like something of great value.
My precious pain, the only thing that no one has ever tried to take away from me,
So I guard it with a vehemence that only a lover could know.
Anger and loss are the stones that make up my walls, and guilt the mortar that binds them.
And it is my own self loathing and condemnation that convicts me of all my good intentions
So I lock myself away from the light of the world and cry out in the darkness for the key that would set me free.
And the impotent king sits alone on the throne in his empty cold castle of stone,
holding his head in shaking hands as his empire crumbles down about him.
The director cries, "cut,cut,cut".....trying to stop all the actors before the last scene can be played out.
But the audience has left the theatre, and all the paid seats are empty.
All that is but for the old man in the last row with tears in his eyes, clapping out a standing ovation and shouting "encore,encore"....as the curtain slowly falls.
