The Nail
Nasty words fall from my tongue;
Name slain in vain;
It’s not wrong,
And I picked up the nail that nailed him that day to the cross.
Lies roll forth;
Like waves on the ocean;
Crashing in on the shore,
And I picked up the nail that nailed him that day to the cross.
Helpless and afraid;
She cried for my help;
I ignored the cry and helped myself,
And I picked up the nail that nailed him that day to the cross.
Booze and pills;
They are my thrill;
I live for the high;
Its numbs the inside,
And I picked up the nail that nailed him that day to the cross.
I heard what he did;
I called all my friends;
The stories about him they never end,
And I picked up the nail that nailed him that day to the cross.
They make me angry;
Revenge is like candy,
And I picked up the nail that nailed him that day to the cross.
Yes, I stole it;
It was small;
There are so many;
They won’t miss it at all,
And I picked up the nail that nailed him that day to the cross.
They’re so hot;
Spouse gone a lot,
Makes me feel wanted,
And I picked up the nail that nailed him that day to the cross.
They hurt me;
It cut so deep;
No forgiveness do I seek,
And I picked up the nail that nailed him that day to the cross.
Blood drops;
Sins forgot;
Clean and free;
Fell to my knees,
And I lay down the nail that nailed him that day to the cross.
