Poem Commentary

ONE NIGHT, 11 YEARS AGO, I ENTERED MY HOME. DRUNK, HIGH, AND PARANOID I LAID MYSELF ON MY SOFA AS I DID EVERYNIGHT. I NEEDED TO WATCH THE DOOR BECAUSE I NEVER WANTED TO BE CAUGHT SLIPPIN. I LIVED BY THE CODE OF THE STREETS. THAT VERY NIGHT THE DRAWING OF THE HOLY GHOST CAME UPON ME! GOD BEGAN TO PRICK MY HEART AND REVEAL HIS SAVING POWER TO ME. THAT NIGHT INSPIRED THIS WRITTING.

THOU PREPAREST A TABLE BEFORE ME

Today was the day of my lowest moment. The world had condemned me. Sin had consumed me. My life style had confined me. I saw no way out. I was depressed, beat up and torn down. I was broken beyond expression. My tears were so heavy they were hidden. My soul seemed to be drowning in them. Every night I watered my couch with my tears. I was on a trail of darkness and a path of destruction. Living, for me, had become meaningless and hope did not exist. But someone had a different plan.
One night, after crying myself to sleep, a stranger knocked at my door. I didn't purposely ignore the knock but did not recognize who it was. When the knocking refused to go away, I asked, "Who is it?" He said, "The Holy Spirit. Get up I want to take you to a friends house." So I got up and decided to follow this Holy Spirit.
He took me to this huge house! The biggest I had ever seen! Holy Spirit didn't even have to knock. He just walked in. I followed Him and we were met at the door by the most beautiful sight I had ever seen. Her character was so free and she moved so gracefully. She introduced herself as Grace.
Grace asked me if I would like to dine with her. My first thought was that this house is to nice for me to be in. I then thought I needed to clean myself up. But that thought was then followed by the questions...How? and Where? If I could clean myself up wouldn't I have done it by now? So I hesitantly said yes to Grace's offer. She lead me to a table fit for a king. It was so grand. It had no end! Grace offered me a seat and stated, I will be served by very close companions of hers.
The first server came in bringing appetizers and the name tag read Faith. Faith smiled at me and I humbly accepted the tasty treats. Then came another bringing wine that was the color of blood! His tag read Salvation. I said, "This bottle looks expensive. How much does it cost?" Salvation said it was free...for the price was already paid. Then came one bearing a tray of all sorts. Now, his tag read Deliverance. I began to eat from the tray and some were bitter to the taste but fulfilling to my belly. Next came an entree with enough food on it to feed me for a lifetime. The server of it tag read The Word. Some of it's meat was a mystery but very tasteful. Then Prayer came in carrying desserts of all sorts. He stated that if what I wanted was not on the tray, just ask and it shall be given to me. Then came another holding a piece of paper that listed everything I had partaken of. I asked, "Who are you?...and "What is this? I thought all this was free. I have nothing to pay you with." Obedience said, "All that you have received is free. This piece of paper is given to remind you of what you have eaten while sitting at the King's table. I accepted and continue to eat at the King's table and am daily served by the King's court. King Jesus is his name!
As I walked out the door the view of the kingdom was majestic! I learned that Mercy and Favor were the ground keepers.
Even when I expect persecution and affliction the love of Christ constrains me to continue this walk. Even when I know not what lies ahead...I know that my strength shall equal my day. The power of the Holy Ghost shall keep me. All praises to an almighty ever existing God.

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
