Poem Commentary

It is such a shame that there has to be a war that takes all our loved ones away.  They have hardly been around long enough to grow up and enjoy all the things of love and the life that is waiting for  them.
                                     Lets pray for our troups

Under the Tree

One Christmas sack under the tree

Gifts nicely wrapped for us to see

Left with love from within his heart

He knows it’s time that he must part

We put our tree up for the year,

Under the tree Paul’s gifts are there

I’d rather have him with out pride,

Then all his gifts wrapped up inside

Paul won’t tell us he can’t be here

His eyes would show a faltered tear

He would not tell us he had to leave

In hopes to be home Christmas eve

We knew he may be called one day

We heard he is now on his way

I know his heartfelt love is tore

Since he was shipped off to the war

We’ll wait for you till you come back

To open up the Christmas sack

Here by the phone, in hopes you call

We wait to hear your voice, dear Paul

One Christmas sack under the tree

I’ll keep it there for the world to see

Under the tree, here on the floor

Till Paul returns from the war

A personal glimpse into the heart of a soldier's family. Nicely written and well conveyed. Peace JL

Poetry is not the expression of personality but an escape from personality.
