    Poem Commentary

    I like opening my catch-all drawer and closing my eyes.  I take things out and try to identify them by their feel, smoothness, coolness, texture, whatever.  It's amazing.  And what treasures surface now and then!  I just had to write this one.

    Unopened Drawers

     strange things are taking seed
    in unopened drawers, catch-alls
    with antiques of our past
    bits and pieces, mysterious ropes,
    cords, numbers, clips, porcelain
    (space) 
    this-n-thats of unknown source,
    small, obscure metal and plastic
    shapes mating and reproducing
    in the deep soil of darkness
    in the unopened drawers.
    (space)
    occasionally a treasure with
    memories attached like yard sale
    tags that open us like unopened
    drawers so that we can examine
    old glories and pleasures uprooted

    very nice work on this one, the imagery into the drawer and the writer was excellent. Have to agree the (space) is not needed. Just leaving a space there gives enough pause and doesnt distract

    There is some good imagery in this piece, and I particularly enjoyed the metaphor of items being rooted in the darkness and uprooted when the drawer is opened... I wonder what this piece could do using that same symbolism in parallel describing memories of emotions about a past relationship, or another person of some significance... A good write...

    Ah, laydbak again. You've become my second favorite person on this site. Wheelsal was the first to discover me and give me good feedback. wheelsal is my first, though I have gotten some really valuable information from just about everyone who has read and commented on my work. But, I think you're the only one so far to read everything I have put up. I know it takes a lot of time to read so much and make honest comments about it. I DO appreciate it very much. I hope I can be a decent poetry friend to you and wheelsal.

    I loved this poem. I think linlee captured the way memories are sequestered in our hearts until some random fragment, picture, object awakens the senory experience of the memory and brings it to life.
