A Desperate Cry Unheard

A woman sits on the side of her bed, contemplating her face in the mirror. She can see the years she has left behind. She can see the worries that kept her awake at night. She can follow with her eyes all those nights when she laid awake hoping tomorrow would never come. She can also see that her face shows signs of pain, a pain she has carried in silence for so many years. A pain she can no longer withstand on her own. She wants to release it, let it go. She wants to forgive herself for it's too late to forget all the transgressors in her life. She can see this pain in her eyes, her lips. All she wants is relief.

She takes a breath as she runs her finger around her eyes tracing the trails of her tears. She wipes her face and once again she thinks of all the days she has gone without feeling relief, comfort. How can she go on? she thinks. How have I come this far? The house is silent; no one around it's too early for anyone to be up, only this woman and her pain. Has no one mercy on me? Hasn't anyone looked upon my face? She wonders. Is it only obvious to her?, can no one else sense the desperate cry her heart exhales. Can no one listen or understand the fact that she is only human, full of flaws. This woman stands alone in a sea of relentless solitude and despair.

She looks back at all the times where she was close or believed she was close to happiness. Was it real? Was she ever there? She can't remember when was the last time she smiled; an honest smile. A smile that comes from within her soul, that lets everyone know that she is complete; that her soul is comforted and content. Her eyes once again fill with tears. That she remembers quite often. Constantly reminded in every step she takes that she cries. That although she cries a cry of pain, ther is no one there to listen for she is alone. Her desperate cries go unheard.

There's a sound, she can hear the pitter-patter of little feet coming down the hall. Quickly she wipes down her face "hi baby!" Once again her desperate cry will go unheard, unanswered. She will go about her day like any other day. She will move forward and contemplate the day where once again she will be happy.

Your pain speaks through your writing. I am sorry life has been so hard on you. I hope life will treat you better. Your pain is pounding through your writing. Keep on writing. It is medicine for the soul.

This is the best one of them all. I hope you do well in the contest. Talk to you soon.
