Steady while you sleep,
I lay motionless in the grass like concrete to the street,
Through the darkness I will creep,
I am the boogeyman and am the reason children weep,
The street lamps flicker as I crawl to a hault,
As I envision my revenge for something that wasn't your fault,
Through the nightmares you have fought,
Surrounded by light it is masked by the darkness I have brought,
The leaves on the ground and cold in the air,
Step by step thought out as I stare,
How I'll enter your home as if no one were there,
Maybe enter through the living room window,
But there is no fun in that when I want you to know when I came in though,
No war paint, just a game face,
No need to hide behind a mask, you should see the demons face,
I will haunt you,
Terrorize and taunt you,
As your children sleep silent,
Hours have passed as I wonder where the time went,
So it's their window I'll come through,
If they see me it will be you they run to,
And I'll leave the window open just for fun too,
But I'm quiet, as if I don't even exist,
But I'm really there like morning grass covered in the mist,
I take a toy from the crib, and from the room I exit,
Walk backwards through the hallway as if I was dyslexic,
Enter the kitchen on a mission as I scavenge for knives,
I'm the boogeyman, but I won't claim lives,
I will gut this toy, and stab it through the door to the basement,
This is just to make a statement,
And I walk out the front door,
I'm all about second chances, this is just one more,
I step off the scene without being seen,
