Poem Commentary

Written October, 2009

Can You Hear?

Can you hear the call of my voice?
Can you hear the wind calling your name?
Can you hear the sound of the birds?
Can you hear the thundering rain?

They are calling to you,
Calling for you.
They each hold a promise
That echoes through the night.
Holding onto hope;
Holding onto love.

Listen to the sound of the thundering drums,
The echoing drums.
They are pounding in the dark,
Searching for an answer,
Searching for a message.

They are calling to you,
Caling for you.
They each hold a promise
That echoes through the night.
Holding onto hope;
Holding onto love.

Yes it is; love is everything; love is life.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
