Poem Commentary

My woman for 27 years

Discoveries Highway

The dream of lying naked with that perfect woman,

amongst the sweet smell of summer meadow,

beneath azure canopy.

The freshness of a sprinkling light shower,

kissing your soft delicate skin,

baked by noon day sun.

The afterglow of our love on our island green,

drenched by beads,

lost amongst furnace toasted dunes.

Like birds of prey this imagery flies past the windows of human souls.

Hands stretch out to open each portal into sapphire beyond.

Spirits gingerly transcend, testing new dominions,

until moon plunges beyond diamond skies, where reality dawns.

Shivering, yet bathing in natures first lights,

how it shakes down the imagery of what you have,

that reigns over this heart and soul.

Spirit willingly and wantingly returns with a smile,

to that haven from where two love seed first grew,

still grows, in summer meadow green beneath azure sky.

I feel the softness of her rain kissed skin on my lips,

drenched by afterglows beads,

on our love island, our oasis, a canopy of green.

I remain solid on discoveries highway, beneath the sapphire,

discovering a newer and deeper love,

lying next to my perfect woman, my wife.

Phil, stunning phrasing. "Baked by noon day sun" and "furnace-toasted dunes" are truly great images. I could've read a dozen more lines of this, it slipped and dripped with effortless ease like the beads of rain on your wife's skin.

Thank you for your comments. I really enjoy painting pictured with words. Have you ever read Felix Dennis, recommended.

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.

Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) American poet.
