Fallen Angel
Wings black as night,
fold easily upon my back.
I jump from the highest peak,
free falling hundreds of feet.
Beginning to glide now,
I spiral downward slowly.
Landing in the graveyard,
to visit friends long dead.
Contemplating immortality,
my mind wanders back.
Through centuries of night,
I see my past flash by.
Vaguely I remember day,
and the warmth of the sun.
Only dimly can I recall,
why day was important.
The shadows hide my pain,
as the light never could have.
Suddenly I take flight,
a scream bubbling out.
Raising goosebumps,
my anguish is tangible.
You can feel my agony,
deep in your soul.
Connecting for an instant,
then vanishing like it never was.
To see me outside nightmares,
would chill you to the core.
I haunt the night alone,
always searching for someone.
A friend in the darkness,
to help me see a bit of light.
But this endless night,
reigns on without end.
Hoping for you to find me,
I will wander forever.
Never stopping my quest,
with only a glimmer of hope.
Fading into the darkness,
I remain unseen.
