    UPA~ON THE FLY CHALLENGE
    Everyone has that one secret, special retreat in nature or should have.

    FEW KNOW OF
    I've a hide-a-way
    I'd go every spring
    A little ways beyond
    The old, abandoned railway station

    A well hidden, narrow foot path beckons
    Near the edge of town
    I'd skip school the month of May
    Every year

    It's peaceful .. listening
    The river's distinct sounds
    A stone throw's distance
    From the boisterous, city traffic

    I'd avoid the bridge underpass and levee
    Where society's ills gathered .. undisturbed
    Lying asleep .. drunken from cheap wine
    Purchased with greasy coins
    From hours of panhandling

    I'd round the curve
    Traipse without a sound
    Limbs .. leaves ..
    Gently caressing my face, arms, and legs

    I'd to continue my escape
    To get to where i'm going
    Several hundred more steps
    I'm almost there .. the far side of the forest

    I see the familiar willow tree
    It's presence .. inconspicuous
    Bearing shade from the hot .. torturous sun
    Seems i hear it whispering 
    Welcome .. come close

    I've been patiently waiting for you
    Weeping .. silently
    In this secluded beach paradise
    Few know of

    Dynamic imagery! Every word in this piece seems to have been chosen with the utmost care, and the end result is a fantastic journey. Very well written!

    This brought back a ton of memories for me. I grew up in the south in a rural town and had a place such as you described. Thanks for that remembrance..

    Ahhh sometimes people are so swallowed up by routines or somethings... that they are blinded by beauty,,,that beauty then is only seen and know of by the few...This reminds me of the alchemist..about his mission in not throwing the marble while walking in the palace, he was to focused that he forget the beauty in the place in the process,,

    Myself included, swallowed up in rat race routines .. allowing very little time to enjoy the real beauties in life! Thanks stellar!
