I Think So

Poem Commentary

This is a teenage poem which as you read will become quite apparent....even if only by the puncuation alone. I could have changed that, but I think that it would have changed it too much from the teenage temper tantrum that it really was.

I Think So

Care and feel?
Why should I do either?
So that I may be hurt?
So that I can see how worthless I am?
I don't think so!

Care and feel?
Why I ask you?
I know when I am unwanted!
I know the world will turn them against me.
I think not!

Hurt, pain, loneliness,
Who needs these?
Not I, for I have know them well.
I shall never feel, nor care, nevermore!
I think so!

I shall take what the world offers,
But I shall not share myself.
I shall not care about anything!
I shall not feel anything.
Yes, I think so!

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
