ILLUSION
No one knows the burden I carry
Wearing the badge of survivor courage
I walk alone; I dare not tarry
My eyes I hide lest they see my baggage
A bright smile
Some cheerful laughter
Ordinarily beguile
‘Til sometime after
It’s a treacherous thing
This mask that lies
It hides everything
But what’s in the eyes
No one hears my soul’s silent cry
Desperately trying not to end up a loser
They see someone who can almost fly
Just an illusion created by my abuser
