It Can't Be Me!

  • shhhh! If you're quiet you will hear the sound of my heart breaking.

It Can't Be Me!

I look in the mirror
I see a stranger looking back at me.

It can't be me!
The reflection
is battered and bruised.

Tears streaming down her face
streaming from her black and blue eyes.
The very eyes that once reflected the love
she once seen in his eyes.

Who is the woman looking back at me?
In ways she looks like me,
but how could that be?

How did I go from
cherrished and loved
to battered and bruised?

Did I do something wrong?

Doesn't he love me anymore?

Who is this woman reflecting back at me?

It can't be me!

Very powerful piece! Hopefully an eyeopener to some on just how much damage can come from a loss of control.

I appreciate your kind words. My writing is a big part of my healing process.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
