Sticks and Stones

Who ever said
"Stick and stones
may break my bones,
but words will never hurt me."

Never had the words
"No one is more stupid than you!"
screamed at them.

Never had the words
"I rather die than to be around you!"
spew out of someones mouth.

Never had the words
"I cannot even stand to look at you!"

Words will never hurt me!

Yea I wish!

Sticks and stones
may break my bones,
but words can crush me!

Words can be a powerful force if hurled at one in anger. The secret to surviving such assaults is a strong self image constructed through learning to accept ones self and the many talents that one possesses.. and it is obvious that you possess many..

I feel full of emotion and your correct even the Bible says that life and death are in the power of the tongue, words can crush and destroy, they can disable, and tear down, sometimes the strong recover and sometimes other's may not, sometimes you can't win for loosing, in order not to be hurt you protect yourself with a wall, then your condemned for having the wall ha-ha-, I still believe in love and taking chances with your heart some times you hit goal !! love your work and love you so sincerely WARSAW ( forgive any mis-spellings in a hurry )

Walls is something I built to keep myself from getting hurt, but I have realized it doesn't work. I still get hurt. Personally I think I would of rather been punched than hae those words said to me.

You gave a new spin, on an old, and somewhat ignored saying. Nicely done. There's plenty of emotion here, and you display it well.

I love this poem - because it's very true, and it flows very well. Your imagery is really good, and you express yourself well. :)

I'm glad you liked it. My writings come from heart. Some are personl and some are not, but either way it comes frommy heart.

Poetry is not the expression of personality but an escape from personality.

T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
