Oedipus Obsession

Poem Commentary

Sigmund Freud's Oedipus Electra was the culmination of a girl's desire to be with his dad in a sexual manner. As disturbing as the theory suggest it to be, the Mother was looked upon as the biggest impediment the girl sought to remove. Well here is a poem to magnify the theory aforementioned.

Oedipus Obsession

Husband and wife were meant to be intertwined

A love so deep that transcends space and time

The bundle of joy was soon to strive

Just a few more seconds until she arrives

As the years progressed the little girl interjected

Mommy and Daddy needed a little time alone so she got rejected

Inner turmoil and jealousy filled her heart

The biggest impediment was her Mother not the dog’s bark

Daddy would console her when skies were gray

While Mommy went to church as she sit and pray

Sigmund Freud had a theory that would be highly critiqued

Let’s take the time to analyze the girl’s mystique

Sexual desires developed for a man she knew all her life

The hatred for a woman that was known as his wife

Ultimately the maturation process was delayed

Lesbianism was embodied and now is on full display

Difficult to see at first similar to a diamond in the rough

Or oysters that encapsulate pearls

And to think it all stemmed from an innocent little girl

Wow! What a piece for reflection you have given us all. It is a sad truth in the world today. We must slow down to smell the thorns, time is always enough for a simple, small, loving word to those who are in need. Thank you for sharing it!

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
