    Poem Commentary

When the words just won't come, sometimes there's a missed connection.

    POETIC LICENSE

    Pen in hand.
    White sheet of paper.
    Words that just won't come.
    Stare at blank page
    willing thoughts to flow
    until disgust embeds itself
    and paper becomes trash.
    Turn on computer.
    Fingers perched on keyboard.
    Words still won't come.
    Stare at blank screen
    in vain attempt
    to force thoughts into action
    until exhaustion embeds itself
    and plug is pulled.

    Pen in hand.
    White sheet of paper.
    Begin to feel connection
    between page and poem.
    Hand moves easily and swiftly
    scribbing words phrases.
    Scratch some out. Try others.
    Nothing rhymes. That's okay.
    Paper becomes filled
    with poetic rambling
    and finally realize
there's no need for poetic license
    to drive pen across page.

It is so cool how you decribe that process that every writer goes through. The frustration, the need to fill that blank space can't be forced it is just something that flows freely like some extension of self that thinks and feels on a subconcious level.

wow so true Sherlock. when we force words or try to will them to come it doesn't work. only when we relax and let poetry flow through us and the paper become an extension of our body does poetry really take form

Poetry comes nearer to vital truth than history.

Plato (BC 427-BC 347) Greek philosopher.
