    Poem Commentary

Waiting to find out the results of a PET scan my father had last Saturday. He may have mesothelioma, an incurable disease. He is 86 years old. I wrote this because his doctor's appt is on Thursday and I am waiting for Thursday's answers -- and God's.

    THURSDAY'S ANSWERS

    Foggy this morning.
    Romote control drive to work.
    Fog enveloped my consciousness
and muffled all sound, all feeling.
Figured the sun or a second cup of coffee
    would burn it off
    but it's pervasive, persistent.
Won't go away and I remain
    encapsulated in a trance-like state.
    Attempts to focus on
    matter at hand are futile
    and nothing seems important.
    Nothing except Thursday.
And so the fog does not dissipate.
I will go through the motions
of existing until I have the answers.
    Thursday's answers.
    God's answers.
And will those clear the fog
    or make things even hazier?
    I may never know.
    Just need to belive
    God does.

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.
