Promises Lost

Poem Commentary

Ideas through life expressed, but not followed.

Promises Lost

Wondering why I'm still here

What happened to those meaning years

What’s left aside from brick and stone

The lost left overs of my once before

Promises made to myself are gone

Those high hopes dreamt, lost through this dusk

What could have been has not unfolded

No Promises made were made for fortune

No time to think why time just folded

No plans were made into eyesight

No dreams were put into fine light

No underestimating self, just underwhelming hopelessness

It’s the stones which could have been without

The store, the book, all plans stored now

Why is it simple to think so high,

Of promises made so far behind

What is this thought that makes it real

When thought alone keeps dreams within

For all that needs and wants in life

Small gestures of one’s self despite

The challenges which come as stone does

To hold those promises till dusk
