I’m dying from the inside out
Shedding pieces of my spirit
Like serpent skins catching wind
Another layer to the stratosphere
And the storm is winding down
Not enough energy to keep up

My pace has always been fast
And now-
Now that I’m dying from the inside out

The falling lasts forever
A tranquilizer freezing the pain
And keeping vitality at bay
Somewhere out of the way
It wrestles with the perfect storm

And I’m still dying from the inside out
Shedding pieces of my spirit
Like the rubble left after the storm
Staring at a clear, blue sky
Like her eyes- gentle and inviting,
But I’m in pieces and confused.

My foundation is shattered,
As if trust were a lightning-struck mast
Somewhere out there on the horizon
It flickers; and above, it forms a cloud
And the waves are a clear-blue eye
Winking at the perfect storm
That’s coming to pick up pieces.

For I’m dying from the inside out
Shedding my spirit
As if the pieces were ashes in the wind
Not enough left to make a cloud

That is dying from the inside out.
